Love the ball - since 1976.
The very first Helsinki Cup tournament was played in the summer of 1976. At the time, close to 300 teams took part in the tournament. The Helsinki Cup immediately took its place as the largest football tournament in Finland for youth and children. Over the years, the tournament has brought in hundreds of thousands of participants from nearly one hundred different countries - visitors coming from as far away as Africa, Asia and South America.
In the past few years nearly 1000 teams from approximately 20 different countries have participated in the tournament annually. This means 17,000 participants and 250,000 Cup participants during the tournament week alone. Today, the Helsinki Cup is Finland's most renowned, prestigious and international football tournament for youth and children. At the same time, it is one of the largest tournaments in Europe in its category.
Next summer will mark the 39th Helsinki Cup and it will be organized from 7th to the 12th of July 2014. All of the tournament's grass and artificial pitches in Helsinki are in tip-top condition. Some tournament matches will also be played at the legendary Helsinki Olympic Stadium. There are 15 pitch areas and all in approximately 60 playing pitches. Names such as Jari Litmanen, Aki Riihilahti, Mikael Forssell, Laura Kalmari-Österberg, Joel Pohjanpalo, Anne Mäkinen, Sami Hyypiä and Brazilian national team player Julio Babtista have, at one time, all emerged in the spotlight from the Helsinki Cup playing pitches.
The Helsinki Cup warmly welcomes both Finnish and international girls and boys teams to play in this unique one week tournament event. You can expect a genuine feeling of a large international tournament in the beautiful and charming capital of Finland.
See you next summer at the Helsinki Cup!
